Presentation Tips

Presentation formats

Each presenter will have a 20 minute slot for their presentation. Podium presentations should aim to be 15 minutes in length, with a following 5 minutes for questions and comments. Presenters will have access to a computer and projector should they wish to display a PowerPoint, photographs, or other media related to their work.

Need help with your presentation?

As archaeology students themselves, the CASA organisers know that presenting your research at a conference can be very daunting. The CASA conference series is specifically designed to offer an encouraging environment in which to present your first paper, or to refine your presentation skills. Please see below for some tips on giving presentations, and for getting the most out of your conference experience.

How to give a great presentation:

    • Don’t put too much text on your slides. Use keywords and short bullet points for the audience and to prompt yourself.

    • Aim for around one minute per slide.

    • All text should be clearly visible and at least 20pt

    • Keep in mind that CASA delegates will come from a range of academic stages and backgrounds, so make sure you clearly describe any technical terminology.

    • Practice! Try it out on your own in the mirror, and then grab your friends and family. Each time you practice, try to use your notes less.
