Memorialising Ancestral Landscapes of the Brazilian Northwest Amazon: challenges and perspectives
Manuel Arroyo-Kalin (University College London)
In this talk I will discuss the Intercultural Archaeological Programme of the Northwest Amazon (PARINÃ), a British Academy-funded initiative that has channeled archaeological, anthropological, and historical approaches to reconstruct the pre-colonial history of the Northwest Amazon while establishing dialogues about historical memory with indigenous peoples of the region. The talk will focus on project activity in São Gabriel da Cachoeira, an historical cross-roads of indigenous groups that inhabit the broader transnational territory of the upper Negro River.
Attendance is either in-person at the McDonald Institute Seminar Room, McDonald Institute of Archaeological Research, or online (please register here).
