Biography

Sofia Bourantoni is a PhD student at the Cambridge Heritage Research Centre in the Department of Archaeology, University of Cambridge. Sofia has an interdisciplinary background in economics and management, politics and art theory and history. She holds a Bachelor of Science in International and European Economic Studies from Athens University of Economics and Business. She received her master's degree in the History of Art from the University of Essex, where she focused on art installations and health during her MA dissertation.

Research

Sofia’s research interests fall more broadly in the nexus of heritage and health. Her current PhD research analyses the role responsibility can play in the heritage-making process concerning heritage formed by disease outbreaks, particularly Hansen’s disease (leprosy). She studies the attitudes and responses that human societies and communities develop towards heritage relating to healthcare and discusses how these attitudes continue to shape relationships between identity, memory and place. Sofia is also interested in the dynamics of heritage policy formulation; particularly how various stakeholders and communities assume their roles in this process.
