Professor Pikirayi is one of Africa’s leading and most prominent archaeologists. His research on Great Zimbabwe and on indigenising historical archaeology as a sub-field on the continent have been especially transformative. More recently he has led efforts to promote ethically driven community archaeology in Africa, often taking a critical stance toward earlier efforts as being top-down and too aligned to what has become known as ‘Authorized Heritage Discourse’.
