Biography

I’ve been interested in past lives for as long as I can remember, waking up early for adventures in Old English and brain-tanning hide before school. I completed my BA in Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic Studies at the University of Cambridge in 2018 where my dissertation explored the evidence for female runic literacy in the Viking Age. After that, I spent a year at the University of Nottingham researching ownership inscriptions on Viking Age artefacts found in the British Isles and Scandinavia for an MA in Viking and Anglo-Saxon Studies. Since then, I’ve been working at the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology in Cambridge in various roles, all seeking to research, care for and share the incredible collections housed there.

Research

My research explores the identities of Early Medieval people living in Central, Northern and Western Europe through their shared experience of bucket burial. At once widespread and uncommon, the consistency with which stave-built vessels were constructed and deposited throughout Early Medieval Europe raises questions surrounding our interpretations of community, funerary culture, and the relationship between people and things at transformational life stages.
