Dr. Tafuri is an isotope specialist, and runs one of only two operational isotope labs in Italy. She has extensive international connections, having collaborated with researchers in the UK, France and other countries. She has worked extensively on material from both prehistoric and medieval contexts, and has also worked for many years in Libyan archaeology and skeletal studies.
