Biography

I am a conservator specializing in the treatment of osteological remains and stone artifacts from Palaeolitihc sites. My professional conservation career spans more than twenty years of work within archaeological and paleontological research projects, mostly developed at the Catalan Institute of Human Paleoecology and Social Evolution (IPHES, Tarragona, Spain), where I am currently a researcher.

In 2021, I joined the Shanidar Cave project through a postdoctoral position at the University of Cambridge, working on the conservation and reconstruction of the most recent Neanderthal remains found at the site.

Research

My fellowship research project ‘New Reconstruction of the Shanidar Z, A and B Neanderthals’ focuses on refining the reconstruction and a detailed study of the Neandertal remains from Shanidar Cave, using a combination of new physical and virtual reconstructions. This work will be carried out in collaboration with Dr Emma Pomeroy.

The work will permit a more accurate reconstruction of the anatomy, behaviour and depositional history of the Shanidar Neanderthals, contributing to major debates about Neanderthal treatment of the dead, evolution in physical characteristics, population dynamics, health and behaviour. This fellowship is funded by the British Academy's Visiting Fellowship Programme.
