The impacts of colonialism all over the world are well documented. The dehumanising, racist, objectifying, exploitative, practises and processes of colonialism linger in our midst contextualised in the concept of coloniality. The impact of these systemic processes in many parts of Africa, has meant that Western cultures and technologies are dominant, and perceived to be more superior and sometimes preferred at the expense of indigenous knowledge and lifeways. Decolonisation (and transformation in South Africa) are processes aimed at reversing the wrongs of colonialism. So, I reflect on and my experience working with communities to suggest ways of challenging or engaging coloniality.
