Visualisation

Visualisation can assist in the interpretation and presentation of archaeological landscapes.

Draping the orthophotos over the terrain models allows us to investigate the landscape context of the monuments further.

Here Loughcrew Cairn T can be seen in the foreground, on top of Carnbane East, with the Slieve na Calliagh hills running east towards the Blackwater valley. The Blackwater is one of the tributaries of the Boyne.

Visualisation can also highlight features in the data, and assist in communicating the Project's findings. Here the orthorectified photography has been draped over the lidar surface model. Oblique illumination enhances the archaeological features to create this digital landscape view - looking south across the Ballinvally field system towards the Slieve na Calliagh hills, with Cairn T visible on the summit of Carnbane East.
