Digital Surface Models
Both Lidar and software photogrammery create a Digital Surface Model (DSM) rather than a Digital Elevation Model (DEM). The actual surface is measured, including any trees, buildings, houses, or even people. In order to create a DEM, it is necessary to remove all these features. Work is ongoing, in collaboration with the UK Environment Agency, to remove the unwanted features from this landscape. This will allow more accurate spatial analysis to be undertaken.
