EXCAVATION AND FIELD TRIPS
As well as being taught in Cambridge’s outstanding mix of lectures and small groups, as an Archaeology student you will be trained in excavation technique.
Training excavations are held in the first and second year. In the summer between the second and third year, most students spend four weeks on an excavation of their choice, approved by the Department. Students in Assyriology and Egyptology either join an excavation or do a study tour of Archaeological sites and museums. Departmental subsidies are available.
The Department also organises a number of field trips, including a weekend to Stonehenge and Avebury in the first year, and a week abroad in the second year. Further field trips are organized by particular courses.
