Research aims

Troina is a small town, set at over 1000 m, to the west of Mount Etna, which controls routes to the Nebrodi mountains and the north coast from the fertile plain of Catania to the south. The modern administrative territory of the town co ntains uplands and lowland valleys descending to about 300 m. a.s.l.

The project is developing a strategy of regional survey (followed by selective excavation) to investigate the long-term archaeological history of the Troina region. Three particular foci will be addressed:

There is a strong Roman and Medieval component to the project.
