Thank you for coming to DIG 2007!

Many thanks to everyone who came to DIG 2007, and especially to all the presenters, whose hard work made it such an informative and enjoyable conference.

Pictures from the workshop, the conference, and the field trip are now posted on this website.

Introduction to the DIG conferences

The Developing International Geoarchaeology Conferences are a forum for international communication on geoarchaeological topics. Their goal is to facilitate discussion and to stimulate research in geoarchaeology within the framework of an organised international group. The meetings are open to all geoarchaeology practitioners, researchers, and students from around the world.

DIG 2007

Following the highly successful DIG 2005 conference that was held in St. John, New Brunswick, Canada, the University of Cambridge held the second Developing International Geoarchaeology Conference in April, 2007.

The conference was attended by delegates from 17 different countries, and included talks on a very wide range of topics and regions. The talks were grouped into four thematic sessions: Advancements in Methodology, Anthropogenic Soils, Site Formation and Preservation, and Landscapes and Land Use.

The conference was preceded by a 2-day workshop of the Archaeological Soil Micromorphology Working Group. The workshop mainly involved practical microscopy work, but it also included poster presentations and two short sessions of papers -- one on Micromorphological Studies of Occupation Deposits, and one on Micromorphological Studies of Landscapes, Land Use, and Resources.

The papers given at the conference and the preceding workshop will be published in a special issue of the journal CATENA, which will be guest edited by Charles French and Karen Milek.

Congratulations to the winners of the student prizes!

Congratulations to Susan Mentzer, who won the prize for the best student paper: a free radiocarbon date from BETA Analytic Inc.

Congratulations to Manuel Arroyo-Kalin, who won the prize for the best student poster: one year's free membership to the The Association for Environmental Archaeology which includes fee copies of the journal Environmental Archaeology.

Conference publication: invitation to submit papers for review

Delegates who presented papers at the micromorphology workshop or the conference are invited to submit their papers for review by October 1, 2007.

The publication schedule, instructions for authors, and information about the peer-reviewing process are on the conference publication webpage.
